Ansley's 4th Birthday Party

After a series of sessions on Saturday, I stopped by to see my favorite friend, Ansley at her 4th birthday party at Chastain's Horse Park. It still amazes me to see how much this little girl has grown and matured. I loved being part of her day, horses and all.

And of course, capturing all of the fun details that made her party so special.

* Even though Ansley is totally hamming it up & faking a smile, we have a very special bond. =P *

Back IN!

I apologize for my lack of blogging this week. I just returned from one of the most inspirational photography workshops of my photographic career. Learnfest featured some of my favorite names in children photography (Audrey Woulard, Lena Hyde, Tamara Lackey and Laura Novak). All had so much knowledge to share! I couldn't contain the breadth of knowledge I learned from not only these 4 industry leaders, but from the 60 other attendees I was privileged to get to know.

I will have to share more of my experience at a later time, but just wanted to share 1 image my good friend Virgil took at our "mac party" at the airport. We're never finished exchanging ideas, sharing knowledge and learning about the business of photography.

Taken at Wilmington Airport, as we waited for a plane to fly us out of storm central.

Out.

Just a note to my wonderful clients that I will be out of the office this week.

I will be spending some quality time learning, growing & aspiring with fellow photographers at this amazing place. Isn't it gorgeous?

*******

edited to add: I can't show you how gorgeous it is here at Bald Head Island, North Carolina because I can't ftp images from my laptop. More images to come when I return!

Just one of Ansley, age 4

She's grown and matured so much since I began photographing her at 2.

The "Bridge"

Last week, on a hot & humid day, Gavin & Jake's family introduced me to a beautiful location to take family portraits. This coveted location was perfect. Perfect lighting, perfect backdrop, serene & away from it all.

I dedicate this post to Elizabeth, because she was hiding this location all to herself! (j/k!)

Maddox, 5 months old

What a heartbreaker this boy will be. Big blue eyes, blond curls, the most infectious smile.

I love my job....

And his gorgeous, big sister Kendell, whom I photographed a year ago.

Dana & her House of Boys

Jake & Greg's parents are close friends of me & Kyu. In a whirlwind span of 4 years, Dana & Kayle have gotten married, produced 2 blue-eyed boys & turned their house into a Cowboy team's haven. Jake & Greg will be football players for sure.

7 months is my favorite age to photograph, for reasons depicted below.

Jake at 7 months in 2006.

Greg at 7 months in 2008.

The whole Cowboy family. Dana is a lucky gal.

Micah, Blan & her Christmas Card Project

Blan booked a session with me and Micah months in advance in an attempt to create a Christmas card, 50 years in the making. I can't wait to share what we come up with. Today was the perfect day for outdoor equestrian photos - beautiful foliage, overcast & a constant, cool breeze.

Ashland Farm boasts 430 acres of gorgeous pastures & trails. Not to mention the most beautiful apple trees and grape valleys!

Around the farm with Micah.

Blan wanted vintage photos to compliment her childhood photos, so my attempt at vintage!

Family Portraits

I receive a lot of requests to photograph family portraits. While I love shooting families, it's important to know that my style is less posed, less traditional, and more relaxed & fun. Evan's family wanted to capture a generational photo that illustrated their deep family connection & love they have for one another. Not only were they open to all of my ideas & direction, they were SO much fun to work with!

Stunning

When Ryan's mom told me she was expecting baby #2, I jumped at the opportunity to photograph her maternity photos. I knew she would be just stunning.

Beautiful light. Beautiful mom.

And a special request from Ryan's mom, herself.

** On another note, I have several sessions I'm dying to post. Kyu and I have been super slammed with a booked season and special project on the way. Thanks to all of our clients for your patience as we finish your books & session images! **

Will turns 1!

And what a memorable photoshoot we had to commemorate it. Balloons, lollipops & running/playing in the park with big sister Kate. There were so many amazing shots from this session. Here are some favorites with all of the pretty color.

Perfect in all of the little ways

I love hearing parents describing all of the details in putting together their baby's nursery. Everything must be perfect. The crib, the drapes, the color, the feeling. It's a process that takes months...afterall, this is the most important room in the house.

Miss Julia was just perfect too.

Much needed R & R

Ok, so we didn't end up doing any work on the beach. The weather was just too nice, and the skies & water were just too blue. For Kyu and I, it was just the break we needed before finishing the home stretch this crazy, holiday season. We each gained about 10 lbs from all of the lobster and conch of the islands, but heaviness and all - we smiled, hugged and thanked the beautiful, island stars that we were celebrating our first anniversary at such an amazing place.

Some photos around the island. Kyu was quite comfortable driving on the opposite side of the car & road, and we had conch stew everyday there. YUM!

Our favorite place to eat, da Conch Shack. (processed by TRA's pool party mix)
